Last night we have set sail to make the big jump sailing South around Sørkapp and up North again into Storfjorden. After a bit of a rocky ride at the most Southern point, the water calms down as we are heading for Habenichtbukta. We make an afternoon landing at Edgeøya, the third largest island of Spitsbergen, where we are welcomed by some purple sandpipers walking along the shore. As soon as we start walking up the slope, we spot our first polar bear in the distance and luckily the bear moves away from us so we can continue exploring this beautiful island. Additionally we see flocks of Brent geese, a few reindeer and some Arctic skuas overhead. The plan is to spend a quiet night on anchor in Habenichtbukta and continue our journey in the morning….
